No Squadron is complete without a Civilian Committee backing it. The CivCom is responsible for all the financial arrangements, fundraising and welfare of the Squadron.
The CivCom is not part of the uniform or civilian instructor elements of the squadron. It is comprised of a mixture of former ATC staff, parents of current serving cadets and other useful individuals who can contribute to it. Anyone who fits into the above criteria can request to join the CivCom by contacting the CO.
The CivCom works closely with the Sqn CO and staff to help provide the cadets with much needed funds, as well as opportunities to raise them.
They meet four times a year approx every three to four months to discuss the financial needs of the squadron and to organise fundraising events, e.g. bag-packing, and, (in association with the scouts) the Cardiff & The Vale of Glamorgan Christmas Scout Post.
An important part in the committee’s work is to insure the cadets are given a first-class Air Cadet experience and that there welfare needs are fully-catered for.
The committee comprises of a chairman, a secretary and a treasurer. The president can be anybody but currently is a former senior RAF officer it is not essential for committee members to have had military experience but all must ascribe to the military ethos.
